Med Ball 2006

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Ahhh…Med Ball 2006 came and went last Friday and it was the night to top all nights..;). Food, drink and just general debauchery..what else do you expect from med students…hehe :p

The night began at 5:30 with champagne and truffles at the imperial hotel (really posh place btw). Everyone looked great, a much welcome difference from everyone’s normal appearance of ’so-can’t-be-bothered-going-to-class-and-been-up-all-night-studying’ look. We were then bused of to the Silversprings Hotel for the reception, while being serenaded on the way by some of the guys at the back..hehe.

Upon arrival, we all gathered together for a class photo. By this time, majority of the ppl there were ‘happy’ which led to some really really funny moments. Once that was done, everyone made their way downstairs for some mingling and drinking…

Dinner officially began at 8pm. A four course meal that began with a chicken and mushroom pastry thing, followed by vege soup, turkey dinner with mash potato, brocolli and carrots, and ended with a wildberry cheesecake with cream. It was a great dinner but myself along with everyone else couldn’t finish their meals…we were just all so STUFFED :).

An awards ceremony was held midway through the meals with a person from each year receiving a ‘golden scalpel’ award. The Golden scalpel award is given to the person who has done the most embarassing (or amazing, just depends on how you look at it) thing whilst under the influence :). To everyone’s surprise in our year, Hakan got the award for first med, for his unprecedented strength and stamina in bench-pressing Vicky during one of our several drinking outings. If you want to see the award-winning photo, leave a comment for me and I’ll direct you to the link..;)

Anyway, at bout 10:30, the after party began with a band called "revenge" playing. They weren’t half bad although many I knew would have much preferred a DJ playing. I had a blast dancing and drinking the night away (even allowing blisters to form on my feet! :( ). The night however would not have been a success with all of my friends around me, you know who you guys are :D. It was definitely a night to remember.

P.s-for photos of the night, leave me a comment and I’ll direct you guys to the link… ;)

Happy

I know I haven’t blogged in the longest time ever. I’ve just been overwhelmed with work (as per usual) and last week was the schedule from hell. ;( But last weekend turned out unexpectantly great…

Last Friday was Dan’s and Vanessa’s surprise bday party. Well..it wasn’t a full surprise as we have a house party every friday night, just to relax and have a good time after a long week of slogging. Anyway, they didn’t know that we had a cake for them and that really surprised them! :) The cake thing was only decided a couple of hours before the gathering so Jess and I (hehe…yea..there’s two of us! :) ) rushed to the shopping centre to get a cake and luckily the bakery was still open. The night was as usual was a great night..with funny and random convos which I’ll tell you guys about someday ;)

The highlight of the weekend however was the surprise arrival of my dad! He mentioned that he was coming by but he never gave me a date so you can imagine how shocked I was to get a phone call from him at 9am on sun morning saying that he had arrived. But it was awesome to see and hang out with him. Unfortunately, he only stayed until today as he had to rush back home. It was short but sweet. :)

I’m probably going to lay low for the next week or so until the med ball as I have a ton of reading to catch up on. Mmm..med ball…champagne and truffles and five-course meal and drinking and dancing…what more could you ask for? :)

To tell or not to tell?

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Hey guys, here’s a scenario that was given to us during our Person, Culture and Society lecture last mon. The answers that were given were really surprising, with the majority going for one option rather than the other. But before I reveal what everyone thought, here’s the scenario:

Your best friend Judy is going out with Joe for the past six months. You know that Joe, with whom you are also very good friends with, is madly in love with Joe and hopes their relationship will progress to marriage in due course. One night, while you are out with Judy, you meet up with two other guys. Judy hooks up with one of these guys and goes back with him to his flat. The next day, she tells you she plans to meet secretly with him again. You meet with Joe two days later and he is upset because he has not heard from Judy today and has not replied to his text messages. He asks you if you think there could be something up with Judy. What would you say/do?

Now this is a situation that I’m sure that many of you have been in before. What I would like to know is what you guys think you would or should have done, rather than what you did. Its not crucial that you answer me but it’ll just be interesting to see what everyone thinks.

Slightly emo atm

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Just finished reading bel’s blog. Her update on her 6 day b-day bash and her tribute to all her friends at the end has made me slighly emo atm. Her blog just reminded me of home…the people, the food, the environment..everything.

Don’t get me wrong..I’m loving Ireland. But home’s home you know? Its never really the same anywhere else. I just miss being in my room, reading with the stereo blasting. Miss those nights when bel and jen would be coming in and out of my room as we all get ready for our typical sat night ritual of going to shen (hehe..yea i know..we’re crazy party animals! :p). I miss being able just to get into my car (well, technically its not my car, but you know what I mean) and drive to the beach for juices, to salim for roti canai and teh tarik, or to coffee bean for the coffee and cake. But most of all, I miss hanging out with the ppl I love..my family (mum, dad, ed, ryan, bel and jen) and the most awesome group of friends you’d ever meet.

I guess its true what they say…you appreciate things more when you don’t have it. I’m really looking forward to returning in summer next year. Till’ then, I’ll keep thinking of the greatest times I’ve had over the 9 months I had at home this year. That’ll keep me going.

Meh

Right..i think the title of the blog says it all. I’m tired and sleepy and so cannot be bothered reading over my notes on the lower limb joints. Note to self: need to do this reading. If not, I know I am SO going to regret this come early dec. Man oh man..I know the long weekend’s just passed but I’m dying for Friday…damnit, Friday arrive already! hehe…

On the plus side, the long weekend was interesting. Didn’t do as much work as I hoped to do but meh, but what can you do? It was the long weekend…its almost expected of you to slack off! :p

Anyway, back to those joint notes..will update you guys on the long weekend some other time…
